Let’s Talk: Cerapotta Ceramic Coffee Filter

We’ve been brewing with the Cerapotta Ceramic Coffee Filter recently and we have been impressed! Not only does it look beautiful, but it is also eco-friendly, and brews a delicious cup of coffee!

The Cerapotta brewer/filter is made out of a porous ceramic material that allows the coffee to pass through the brewer without the need for a paper filter.

This coffee brewer/filter is made in Japan using both traditional pottery techniques as well as modern technology. And the coffee nerd in us was so excited to get our hands on one of these and try it out!

So why not try brewing AFTERGLOW, our natural processed Costa Rican coffee, which tends to have some fermented natural funkiness??

Brew Recipe:

Coffee Origin: Dota San José, Costa Rica

Grind size: slightly coarser than you would for a V60

Coffee to Water ratio: 1:16 (20g coffee, 320g water)

  1. Rinse the Cerapotta filter

  2. Bloom with 50g water for 30 sec

  3. 1st pour: 140g (190g total)

  4. 2nd pour: 130g (320g total)

We found that this filtration method tends to highlight the bright acidity in the coffee and rounds it out with sweet fruity notes, good clarity, and a medium body. It also softens the fermented “punch” to make quite the pleasant experience.

We’re thinking this will become our go to brewer for those intense experimental coffees from now on!
